SUITCASING RESONANCE (2016)
SUITCASED SOUVENIR (2017)
In RESONATING SUITCASE composer and sound artist Rochus Aust picks up his Klangkoffer (sound suitcase) in search of the highly personal and specific sounds of his (extended) neighbourhood, aiming to combine them with his own personal sounds into a work of sound art.
To this end, he visits the people living on a particular street on a one-to-one basis. As a spontaneous guest, he presents those who let him in (and are happy to engage with him) with a personal (German) sound gift (brought along in the Klangkoffer) and asks his hosts for a specific sound, noise or piece of music, which is meaningful to them. The exchange of sound gifts opens up personal and direct communication, and facilitates an emotional discourse in which the particular sound is described, and sometimes also the reason behind the choice.
The collected sounds, music, songs, noises and statements create a composition and combination for the Klangkoffer, which can function both as a mobile concert and an installation. This single object/concert resonates with the wide-ranging sounds of the different people from this one street.
